The Bisbee’s is actually made up of three tournaments. The season begins in early August, with the East Cape Offshore in Buenavista, about a 2 hour drive from Cabo San Lucas. The Los Cabos Offshore Charity Tournament and Black & Blue Marlin Tournament take place out of Cabo San Lucas in October.
This year Hurricane Pamela came up the coast early October, threatening the two later tournaments. Although we didn’t have any big weather inland, the storm brought high tides which closed the port and cancelled the last day of the The Los Cabos Offshore. Things cleared up for the Black and Blue.
With 199 teams competing for a purse of 10 million dollars, this was a historic year for the 41st Bisbee’s Black and Blue Tournament. One of the factors making this year’s tournament so big was that no qualifying fish were brought in last year and many teams chose to let their entry fees carry over, creating the new ‘Let it Ride’ jackpot category. Three days of fishing brought in two qualifying fish. Team BRANIFF took home over $1,000,00 with a 489-pound blue marlin.
